You might choose to stay in one of the area’s rustic mountain lodges, such as the historic Twin Pines Lodge, which is listed on the Wyoming National Historic Register, or the Chinook Winds Mountain Lodge and Retreat Center. The Line Shack is another impressive lodge near Dubois; a 15,000 square foot log structure that is situated near the Continental Divide next to the Shoshone National Forest. Surrounded by forests and the foothills of the Wind River Mountains, this B & B includes the historic Simpson Homestead bunkhouse (right across from Jakey’s Fork’s main house,) where Butch Cassidy and partner Al Hainer spent a Christmas with the Simpson family. The Stone House Bed & Breakfast is located on the outskirts of Dubois, just east of the downtown’s shops and galleries. Guest ranches have been a very popular form of lodging in the Wind River Valley for decades and several are located near Dubois. This is one of the most unique ways to experience the region. Each ranch has their own specific types of accommodations and activities, but all offer a warm, welcoming atmosphere and most have been in business for many years. During day you can ride, fish, hike, picnic or participate in other activities, or just relax in your cabin with a good book. At night there are often cookouts, barbecues, square dances, card games or horseshoes. Some guest ranches even offer cowboy poetry readings and music. Others provide opportunities for their guests to help drive cattle. One thing is for certain; staying at a guest ranch in Dubois is an exciting, unconventional way to spend your vacation, and something you’ll likely be talking about for a long time afterwards.
